I don't think it's used any studies.
When dogs are having fun playing, you will see loose bodies, loose mouths, tongue might be to the side. The dog will be running in arcs, he/she might be bouncy, there will be play bows ,etc..

A dog who has switched to prey mode will drop his head, shoulders forward, muscles tense, mouth might be closed, eyes hard... Also in a nano second the dog will calculate the most efficient route to the "prey" and move in a straight line.

Stay tuned for more on playPuddinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08587715790540949936noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2758919944359015537.post-65200984619581316862013-10-12T07:47:49.390-05:002013-10-12T07:47:49.390-05:00Thank you, Puddin - good info. Dogs who enjoy being chased will often "ask" to be chased with friendly body language.
A dog who is screaming, who has wide eyes, is grimacing, etc.. is jnot having a good time.
Pet parents also should look for lots of "role reversal" during play. If one dog is always the chasee and never the chaser, that might be a concern.

I also look at the body language of the chaser.
When a dog gets "aero dynamic" I start getting concerned.
I will write more on play soon.Puddinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08587715790540949936noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2758919944359015537.post-78968334919267061342013-10-06T14:41:45.482-05:002013-10-06T14:41:45.482-05:00Good info, I did not know that about lasers, thank...Good info, I did not know that about lasers, thank you. I go to the dog park a lot and people always assume that big dogs chasing small dogs are "playing." How do you tell the difference between a chased dog that is playing vs. scared?Dog Park Dudenoreply@blogger.com
